About the Game
Welcome to the home of the Magic, Swords, and Suns collectible card game! If you want to learn more about the game, you’ve come to the right place.
Background
Magic, Swords, and Suns is created and designed by me, Matt Banke. I first began working on the project all the way back in 2002 with the goal of creating a collectible card game that combined all my favorite gameplay elements, but was still simple enough for anyone to enjoy.
After years of testing and modifying, I strongly believe that the game will appeal to both avid gamers and folks who have only ever “played cards” with a poker deck. As I learned from playing with my friends, Magic, Swords, and Suns can be as simple or as complex as each player wants it to be.

Gameplay
While playing, you take on the role of a battle commander and try to defend your stronghold from enemy attacks by wielding powerful weapons forged from magical crystals, laying traps to ensnare your opponents, and casting spells to boost your forces.
In other words, each player builds a deck of exactly 100 cards and takes turns engaging in battle and fortifying their defenses. The objective is to make your opponent discard all the cards in their deck and hand, while protecting your own cards.
Magic, Swords, and Suns combines exciting, new mechanics with many of the elements that make existing collectible/trading card games so much fun. Many of the fundamentals will be familiar to those of you with prior card game experience, while the specifics of the rules are what make the game truly distinct.
What Makes Swords and Suns Unique?
Deck Size
The 100 card decks used in Magic, Swords, and Suns allow games to last longer and help you pull off several different strategies with a single deck. Unlike some card games, in which things can quickly become one-sided, games of Magic, Swords, and Suns typically last 45-60 minutes and are almost always unpredictable.
Rapid Deck Cycling
Despite the large deck sizes, it is actually quite easy to cycle through your deck and find the cards you need. Thanks to the ability to play as many cards as you want from your hand and the requirement that you must have at least 5 cards in your hand at the start of each player’s turn, you can potentially draw a completely new hand at the start of each turn.
Play Cards on Either Player’s Turn
There are over 100 unique magic cards available in Magic, Swords, and Suns and the majority of them can be played/activated on either player’s turn. This allows strategies to be more intricate, makes it easier to cycle through your deck, and adds to the unpredictability of games.
No Point Tracking
In Magic, Swords, and Suns, the number of cards in each player’s deck indicates who currently has the advantage. Thanks to this unique feature, you only need your deck and a pair of dice to start a game.
Easy to Understand
While the large rulebook may seem intimidating, the basics of Magic, Swords, and Suns are easy to explain and can be picked up quickly. Since all power cards have attack strength numbers between 1 and 10, any required math can be done in your head. All magic cards have detailed descriptions explaining their effects and the rulebook contains enough information to answer almost any question.
